Ian Begbie
Education in Africa

Ian; now retired was in education for over 40 years as a school teacher, teaching Geography and Economics. He was also a Boarding House Master for a number of years, responsible for 65 teenagers during school term. Furthermore he served as Head of Mosman Preparatory School for 15 years prior to taking up a Chaplancy and Councillor role at a school on the Gold Coast.

Ian will give a presentation on his involvement in a Pilot Teaching Program in Tanzania. He spent some time in a subsistence village, where with the help of locals they built a classroom in the village school. They witnessed the desperate state of government education in that country and with financial support from Australia they arranged the training of teachers in a bridging program that still continue to this day.
