Ken Borer's report

Revealing a very busy week, Ken told us that on Thursday he attended an Olympic park excursion with school. Friday opera house. Sat evening Planet of the Apes 3 plus chocolate top.

Sunday picnic with friends. Afternoon made his first batch of brownies. Sunday with Tania at a Castle Hill meeting. 15 in bounds and 16 out bounds. Evening scones again by Hazel. Monday chose year 11 subjects. Chose ESL,  business, legal and sport. Planning tough muddier challenge.

Sergeant John

Ken Borer enjoying Hazel's hospitality especially in choc tops and brownies. All outrageous but payable on principle - the principle of - um not sure. John handed many other fines for outrageous behaviour.

Harry cross fines. Long term lunch time friend , Chris, went back to work. Disgraceful. John Donald back from an overseas trip involving baby sitting twins.

President Harry  Introduced to the club a different style of guest speaker--Eagerly anticipating an interview by Roger Wescombe with Pat Price.

Dinner at Friday evening for a 10 year anniversary of the CLCR.

Like Roger, he was born in Wagga Wagga and came to LNS. Dad

Looking for a non-violent school that focussed on developing a child's mind. What was the outcome? Sent Pat to a school focussing on global awareness. Went to Carumbeena.

Went on to high school and then Uni for a degree in exercise science. Got a degree but poor academic student. Also poor marks in high school. By then already knew what he wanted to do --> education --> kick start into career and the outcome.

Went to Democratic education conference in India. was approached by a group who wanted to install different empowering practices in their education. Mahatma Ghandi's grandson spurred him on. Wife(to be) also attended that conference. Been to a similar school to Pat. Passionate about social justice. Pushes Pat into making more effort. Keeps him grounded.

Met Nepalese teachers at the conference. Looked serious about wanting change in Nepal. Impressed because they weren't after money but change.

Couldn't get a job after graduation, so went to Nepal to join these people. Found lots of violence and poor outcome methods.

Researched charity structure to create foundation for initiative. Eg  only 1/4 of the $7B for earthquake got to end user.

Minister for education paid an impromptu and landmark visit.

Wanted to form a partnership with Heartland. Changed the law reference corporal punishment.

Minister got more plans for heartland and expand into greater Nepal.

Visiting Rotarians will have impact on the kids even with a short visit.

Now we have over 500 students and employ 84 teachers. That impacts on about3,000 kids.

Do not receive nor want funding from the Nepalese government. Have great partnership within the DOE. Over the last ten years we have collectively put in $1.2m.  Do other kids from Curambeena  fare that well and are they better equipped to do this stuff?

Yes. Teacher/student relationship is key and education will follow.  Social and emotional development is awesome.

President Harry thanked Pat and announced that he will be joining Pat on visits to other Rotary clubs to expand support for the project.

Attendance 17 members and 9 guests.

Fellowship night next week and Vlad to give us a short history of his life.

Please sit in your teams.

Again Congratulations to James again.
